Faculty Reading Groups

Spring 2011: Academically Adrift: Limited Learning on College Campuses by Richard Arum and Josipa Roksa has impressed some critics and angered others, but its findings will resonate with most faculty. They claim from their large study that the critical thinking skills of most students are not improving by the end of the sophomore year in college. This reading group, led by Writers Workshop Director Libbie Morley, will discuss the book, the research, and the findings. We will also think about our own teaching and institutional practices at the University of Illinois. We will meet 4 times over the semester at a time the group agrees on.
